What Is VISIA® Skin Analysis?
VISIA is not just another fancy camera. It’s a state-of-the-art diagnostic tool that uses imaging, AI, simulations and more to evaluate your skin at a deeper level than previously possible in a clinical setting.
The system captures high-resolution images of your face using different types of lighting to reveal both surface and subsurface skin conditions. Then, it analyzes these images to provide detailed information about your skin’s health and appearance.
VISIA gives us meaningful data to develop a treatment plan specifically for you. We can clearly see your unique skin challenges, as well as how your results compare to others of your same age and skin type. The Technology Behind VISIA®
The VISIA system uses three different types of lighting to “see” into your skin:
- Standard lighting shows surface features, like wrinkles and visible spots. This is what you might see looking in a mirror under good lighting.
- Cross-polarized lighting penetrates the surface to reveal subsurface skin conditions that aren’t visible otherwise. This lighting can show problems developing beneath the surface before they become visible externally.
- Ultraviolet (UV) lighting exposes damage caused by sun exposure that has not yet surfaced, as well as bacterial presence (porphyrins) within pores. This can help predict future skin issues before they become visible.
These technologies work together in a quick and painless scan. You simply rest your chin in a cradle while the VISIA capture unit rotates around your face to take multiple images. The software then analyzes the images and generates an assessment of your skin.
What VISIA® Measures
VISIA’s high-tech imaging software analyzes eight key features of your skin:
Spots
Visible areas of pigmentation that are distinguished by their color and contrast from your background skin tone.
Brown Spots
Pigmentation and discoloration below your skin’s surface that may become visible in the future.
Wrinkles
These furrows, folds or creases in the skin often develop with sun exposure and decreasing skin elasticity.
Texture
This refers to the smoothness of your skin. VISIA identifies raised and depressed areas that give your skin an uneven appearance.
Pores
These circular surface openings of sweat gland ducts can appear enlarged and darker than your surrounding skin tone.
UV Spots
These are areas just below the skin surface that have been damaged by sun exposure.
Redness
Areas of concentrated redness might be related to inflammation, spider veins, rosacea or other redness-causing conditions.
Porphyrins
These bacterial secretions can clog pores, potentially leading to acne and inflammation.

Understanding Your TruSkin Age®
One of the most unique parts of your VISIA report is your TruSkin Age. This metric estimates your skin’s biological age so it can be compared to your chronological age.
What does that mean?
Think of it this way: Some people look younger than their age, while others appear older. TruSkin Age quantifies this difference. For example, a 45-year-old who has taken excellent care of their skin might have a TruSkin Age of 35, while someone who has experienced significant sun damage might have a TruSkin Age higher than their actual age.
This information gives us a baseline to work from and helps guide our selection of skincare products and treatments for you. It’s also a way to measure your progress as you work with us to improve your skin health.

Your Scan
A VISIA scan is simple and comfortable. Ideally you’ll arrive without makeup, but if that’s not possible, we can cleanse your skin thoroughly before the analysis.
You’ll sit with your face positioned in front of the VISIA camera. It takes only a few minutes to capture the images. The system then analyzes them and provides a detailed report.
Your Results
