WHAT IS RESTYLANE?

Restylane is a popular dermal filler that is used to diminish the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines on the face and hands. It's made using hyaluronic acid, a naturally-occurring substance found in the body that plays a major role in keeping our skin firm, plump and hydrated.

As we age, our hyaluronic acid production slows down, leading to a loss of moisture and firmness in the skin. This loss of hydration and elasticity can cause fine lines, wrinkles and other visible signs of aging to develop. When Restylane is injected beneath the skin, it replenishes some of this lost volume to restore a smoother, more youthful appearance.

WHAT TO EXPECT DURING TREATMENT

Restylane injections typically take less than an hour to complete. When you arrive for your appointment, our experienced team will review your aesthetic goals and develop a personalized treatment plan tailored to your exact needs and concerns.

Many Restylane formulas contain lidocaine, a local anesthetic that causes temporary numbness in the skin and tissues to ensure your comfort during the procedure. Our injectors will also apply some topical numbing for additional comfort prior to your treatment. You’ll have the option to visit our numbing room, where you can sit back, relax and be pampered from head-to-toe in one of our world-class massage chairs as you numb.

During the procedure, your provider will use a fine needle to inject a small amount of Restylane into your areas of concern. You may feel a slight pinch or pressure as the injections are administered, but the procedure is generally well-tolerated by most patients. Afterward, you’ll be able to return home.

RESTYLANE RECOVERY & RESULTS

Restylane offers a quick, simple and convenient solution for restoring lost volume in the face or hands. There is no downtime or recovery after the procedure, but you may notice some mild redness, swelling or bruising in treated areas at the injection sites. This is completely normal and these side effects typically resolve within a few days.

To ensure the best results, you should avoid touching or rubbing the treated areas for at least 24 hours. This minimizes the risk of infection and helps prevent the filler from moving out of place. You may also be advised to avoid alcohol or overly strenuous activities during this time, but Dr. Burns and his team will provide you with detailed aftercare instructions to follow.

Restylane immediately replenishes lost volume in treated areas, so you’ll notice an improvement in the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles as soon as your appointment is over. However, your final results will develop as the product begins to “settle,” typically within a week. Treated areas will be noticeably smoother, plumper and firmer than before.

You can expect to enjoy a more youthful appearance for six to 18 months, depending on factors such as your concerns, the areas treated and which formula was used. However, your results will diminish quicker in areas such as the hands that have a high degree of movement. The occasional touch-up appointment can help you maintain and prolong your results, so you can look great for every occasion, season or event that comes your way.
