Brow Lift

Counteract the signs of aging in the upper eyelids, brows, and forehead

The brow lift is designed to rejuvenate your appearance by tackling a few common problems that develop in this area. The first is a tired or worn-out appearance. Many patients are concerned they “look tired” around the eyes, which might be due to upper eyelid skin, but often a saggy brow may be the culprit. Evaluating and lifting the lateral brow to eliminate sagging can restore a more youthful, refreshed appearance.

Frown lines are another issue that can be addressed by a brow lift. Often called “11” lines, these vertical wrinkles develop between the eyes and create an angry or grumpy-looking expression. Finally, a brow lift can smooth out deep forehead wrinkles and creases that have gotten etched into the skin and become more noticeable with age.

If the eyes are the windows to the soul, then the brows are the frames to those windows. But over time, they may droop or sag, casting a tired or aged appearance over your facial features. Excess skin in the upper eyelids also increases with age, caused by either excess eyelid skin or fallen, saggy brows.

A brow lift is utilized to address the brow contribution to upper eyelid heaviness. It corrects the brow line to a more youthful position, decreases crow’s feet, and reduces upper eyelid fullness and heaviness caused by excess skin. At Resurrect Skin MD, this procedure is skillfully performed by board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Jay Burns and tailored to your unique facial structure, restoring a refreshed, natural look that reflects your inner vitality.

What Is a Brow Lift?

A brow lift, also known as a forehead lift, is a surgical procedure designed to reduce the signs of aging and rejuvenate your appearance by tackling some of the most common concerns that develop in this area.

The first is a prematurely aged, worried or exhausted appearance. Many patients are concerned they “look tired” around the eyes. This might be due to upper eyelid skin, but often a saggy brow may be the culprit, creating a heavy, fatigued expression that doesn’t reflect how you feel inside. Dr. Burns can carefully evaluate and lift the lateral brow to eliminate this sagging, restoring a well-rested and more youthful facial profile. The key is to not allow the brow elevation to be too high, causing an excited or overdone look. Dr. Burns always takes a fresh and natural-looking approach.

Frown lines are another issue that can be addressed by a brow lift. Often called “11” lines, these vertical wrinkles develop between the eyes and can give the impression that you’re grumpy or angry. A brow lift can smooth away these lines, along with transverse forehead wrinkles and creases that have become etched into the skin, to refresh your overall appearance. The need for neurotoxins like Botox, Dysport or Daxxify in the forehead is drastically reduced or eliminated after a brow lift. However, neurotoxins are always the best approach to crow’s feet.

What Are the Benefits of a Brow Lift?

  • Eliminates forehead lines and wrinkles
  • Reduces sagging in the brows
  • Softens the appearance of frown lines
  • Rejuvenates your facial appearance

What Is the Difference Between a Brow Lift and a Facelift?

A brow lift and a facelift are two distinct procedures that rejuvenate different areas of the face.

A brow lift focuses specifically on the upper part of the face. By lifting the brows and smoothing away lines, wrinkles and creases on the forehead, it opens up the eye area to help you look more alert and refreshed. In contrast, a facelift concentrates on the mid to lower face and neck. This procedure reduces sagging, tightens loose skin and improves the contours of the face and jawline, creating a more youthful facial appearance overall.

While the brow lift targets the brows or forehead, a facelift does not. Depending on your individual needs and concerns, these procedures can be performed separately or together to achieve your aesthetic goals. At Resurrect Skin MD, many patients combine a brow lift with blepharoplasty to rejuvenate sagging eyelids.

What Is the Difference Between a Brow Lift and Blepharoplasty?

A brow lift and blepharoplasty are both designed to enhance the appearance of the eyes, but each procedure addresses varying aspects of aging in this area.

A brow lift is designed to elevate the eyebrows and soften the appearance of forehead wrinkles and frown lines, restoring a fresh and youthful look. Sagging or drooping brows that contribute to a weary, tired or aging expression can also be revitalized with this procedure.

Blepharoplasty, otherwise known as eyelid surgery, is performed on the upper or lower eyelids themselves. If you’ve noticed undereye bags beginning to form or increasingly hooded eyelids, blepharoplasty can help. It involves carefully removing excess skin and fat to reduce the appearance of droopiness, heaviness or puffiness. Depending on your concerns, either procedure provides excellent results on its own, but we find that a combination of a brow lift and blepharoplasty offers more complete rejuvenation of the upper face and eyes.

How Is a Brow Lift Performed?

A brow lift at Resurrect Skin MD rejuvenates your appearance by lifting the brows into a more youthful position, thus eliminating lines, wrinkles and sagging. Dr. Burns, who is dedicated to providing tailored solutions to meet your aesthetic goals, prefers to perform the open brow lift technique to address all three of these concerns at once for the best possible results. Although the scar is more significant with the open approach, he has found that more predictable, consistent and longer-lasting results are the outcome. Dr. Burns employs techniques that will minimize scarring and not alter hairlines in almost every instance. Even though patients ask about the scar, it is rarely, if ever, a long-term problem in his experience.

At Resurrect Skin MD, we understand that each patient is unique. Dr. Burns will thoughtfully evaluate your particular needs and discuss the best approach for achieving your goals without changing what makes you, you. Our commitment to excellence, individualized care and artful execution ensures that your journey toward a refreshed and youthful appearance is met with expertise and understanding.

What Is the Downtime After a Brow Lift?

After undergoing a brow lift with Dr. Burns, you’ll be able to return home the same day to begin the healing process — as an outpatient procedure, an overnight hospital stay is not required. Post-surgery, you can expect to experience some temporary swelling, bruising and discomfort in the treated area, but these side effects will start to subside and gradually improve within a few days. In the meantime, they can be managed with ice packs and prescribed or over-the-counter medication.

Numbness is a given just behind the incision. There is a strip of scalp immediately behind the surgical scar that will be numb for several months before feeling slowly returns over a year. There is a small chance of some permanent numbness around the scar, as is true for many surgical scars. However, it is not common for this numbness to remain past a year post-op.

Following a brow lift, most people feel comfortable returning to daily and social activities within a week of their procedure, but heavy lifting and strenuous exercise should be avoided for at least four weeks to ensure optimal results and a smooth recovery.

What Results Can a Brow Lift Achieve?

At Resurrect Skin MD, a brow lift is more than just a procedure; it’s an art form carefully tailored to your unique goals and facial features. The results of a brow lift with Dr. Burns are both subtle and transformative. After your surgery, you can expect to see:

  • Reduced sagging in the brows and forehead
  • Eyes that look more open, alert and refreshed
  • Fewer forehead wrinkles and creases
  • A more relaxed, rejuvenated appearance
  • The elimination of frown lines, often referred to as “11” lines, helping to create a more approachable and pleasant expression

It’s important to note that your results may vary based on the technique used and individual factors such as your age, skin quality and the level of correction needed. During your consultation, Dr. Burns will discuss your specific goals and expectations, working with you to choose the method that will best achieve the look you desire. Our commitment to personalizing your treatment ensures that the final result will harmonize with your overall appearance, enhancing your natural beauty without altering the essence of who you are.

“Last fall, Dr. Burns performed facial plastic surgery on me including a brow lift, eyes, neck and face. Since then, I have received comments including, "You look 15 years younger" and "You look so fresh.” Of course, these comments are great to hear, confirming that the results are what I was hoping for. Knowing of Dr. Burns' stellar reputation, I traveled from the Texas Hill Country for his expertise. Not only did Dr. Burns skillfully perform the surgery, but his calm manner and effective communication gave me confidence in him. I fully recommend Dr. Burns to anyone looking for a plastic surgeon.”

Can I Combine a Brow Lift With Other Procedures?

Rejuvenation is often about achieving a harmonious balance across different areas of the face. A brow lift is a powerful tool for refreshing the appearance of the upper face, but it may just be the first step in realizing your aesthetic vision, depending on your needs and goals.

To achieve more comprehensive results, your brow lift can be combined with other procedures, such as an eyelid lift or a facelift. Dr. Burns is highly skilled in coordinating and performing multi-step treatments tailored to your unique needs, concerns and facial anatomy to help you achieve a natural, balanced outcome.

By combining procedures, you can benefit from just one recovery period and more cohesive results. During your initial consultation, Dr. Burns will take the time to understand your goals and develop a personalized treatment plan just for you, which may utilize more than one technique. After your procedure, he can craft an individualized skin care regimen to help you maintain your results and enjoy a more youthful appearance for years to come.

How Long Does Brow Lift Surgery Take to Perform?

A brow lift typically takes about an hour to perform, depending on your individual needs and the specific technique utilized. More complex procedures or combining your brow lift with other treatments may take slightly longer, increasing the duration of your procedure.

Are the Results of a Brow Lift Considered Permanent?

The results of your brow lift are long-lasting, but the effects of time, gravity and lifestyle habits will continue to affect your appearance even after surgery. You can expect to enjoy a refreshed, more youthful appearance for up to 10 years, but you can prolong your results with a personalized skin care regimen and maintenance treatments that give you a healthy glow.

Is There an Ideal Age to Undergo a Brow Lift?

There’s no specific “ideal” age for a brow lift, as it depends more on individual needs and the appearance of the brows. Generally, people who are in their 40s, 50s or 60s might consider this procedure to address aging signs, but it can also be suitable for younger individuals if they have specific concerns of premature aging they would like to address. A consultation with Dr. Burns can help determine if a brow lift is right for you.

What Are the Risks Associated With a Brow Lift?

Like all surgical procedures, brow lift surgery has risks, including bleeding, infection, scarring, nerve injury, and anesthesia-related risks. It’s essential to discuss these with your surgeon and follow all pre and post-operative care instructions to ensure the best possible outcome.
