How Does Dysport® Work?
When Dysport is injected directly into the muscles that cause expression lines to appear, it blocks the nerve signals that tell them to contract. This causes the treated muscles to relax and the overlying skin to smooth out. Dysport is effective on a variety of areas on the face, including the forehead, glabella (between the eyebrows) and crow's feet.

Dysport is an anti-wrinkle injectable that uses the same active ingredient found in Botox (botulinum toxin). What to Expect During Your Dysport® Treatment
At Resurrect Skin MD, we strive to create a warm and welcoming environment for our clients. We want to be the highlight of your day, so if you require numbing before any procedure, you can relax in a deluxe massage chair in one of our private numbing rooms. Let the rest of the world fall away as the topical anesthetic takes effect and for a truly enjoyable experience.
When you come in for your appointment, you’ll be in and out in under 30 minutes. This can vary depending on your unique needs and goals, but most Dysport treatments take only 10 to 20 minutes to complete. During the procedure, your provider will use a fine needle to inject a small amount of product beneath your skin in specific areas, targeting the underlying facial muscles that cause lines and wrinkles to appear with every expression you make.
Afterward, you’ll be free to return to work or go home and immediately resume all normal activities. However, Dr. Burns recommends avoiding rubbing or massaging the treated areas, as this can cause the Dysport to spread to other muscles. You should also avoid strenuous exercise, hot tubs and saunas for at least 24 hours after your treatment.

Dysport® Recovery & Results
After your Dysport treatment, your skin may feel tighter than usual. You may also notice some mild redness, bruising or swelling at the injection site. These side effects are normal and will subside within a few hours or days. If necessary, you can use an ice pack to help reduce residual swelling and apply makeup to cover any redness or bruising.
Dysport provides natural-looking results that typically begin to appear two to three days after your treatment. The results are subtle and develop gradually, which will have people trying to guess what your anti-aging secret is. Once your results have fully developed over the next week or two, you’ll be able to enjoy smoother skin for 3 or more months. If you notice unwanted lines and wrinkles beginning to reappear in treated areas, it may be time to schedule a follow-up and undergo another treatment to maintain your youthful appearance.

Is Dysport® Better Than Botox®?
Dysport is made from the same botulinum toxin as Botox and Xeomin, but it has a slightly different chemical makeup. This may make it more effective for certain patients. However, no neurotoxin is necessarily “better” or “worse” than the others— the one that’s right for you depends on your goals and preferences. Don’t worry; during your consultation, our team will help you decide which is best for you and take the guesswork out of the equation.
How Long Does Dysport® Take to Work?
Dysport temporarily relaxes the muscles responsible for causing wrinkles and fine lines. It does this by blocking the signals between the nerves and the muscles, preventing the muscles from contracting. However, for this to occur, the neurotoxin needs to be absorbed by the muscle fibers, and this process can take a few days. Most people begin to notice results two to three days after their appointment.
When Does Dysport® Start to Wear Off?
Dysport can last for up to five months, but its strength may start to diminish after three or four months. As the effects of Dysport wear off, you’ll notice a return of fine lines and wrinkles in treated areas. Fortunately, you’ll be able to restore your results by scheduling a touch-up appointment. With repeated treatments, some people find that they can maintain their results for longer periods of time as the facial muscles become “trained” to relax.
How Much Does Dysport® Cost?
Like Botox, Dysport is priced by the number of units received. Due to the differences in formulation, more Dysport is needed to achieve results comparable to Botox. However, the price per unit is lower, so the cost works out to be about the same.
