What Is Ellacor?

Ellacor is a first-of-its-kind solution for scarlessly removing and tightening skin. Its micro-coring technology combines the tried-and-true skin revitalization principles used for decades in fractional lasers and microneedling with the novel ability to physically extract tiny columns of skin through hollow needles.

Each needle in the ellacor device has an internal diameter so small (0.5mm) that it is below the threshold for scarring. Imagine getting a booster shot from your primary care doctor — even though the needle enters your skin, it’s small enough that it doesn’t leave a scar behind. Ellacor creates hundreds of similar punctures, removing micro-cores of skin as it goes. We’re essentially “deleting” aged skin.

After the procedure, your body’s natural healing process goes to work to close the cores, generating new collagen and elastin. This process delivers improvements in skin firmness and quality, without the risks and recovery time associated with surgical procedures, and without creating any scar tissue.

What Areas Can Ellacor Target?

Ellacor is FDA-cleared for treating concerns in the mid and lower face, such as:

Nasolabial folds
Lines around the mouth
Marionette lines
Loss of jawline definition (jowls)

While these are the areas ellacor is currently intended for, the technology is not inherently limited to a specific region and may have future applications beyond the face.

Am I a Good Candidate for Ellacor?

Ideal candidates for ellacor are generally aged 40 to 60 and exhibiting early to moderate degrees of wrinkling and skin laxity in the lower two-thirds of the face. We can use Ellacor to proactively treat patients noticing initial signs of aging as well as more mature skin requiring rejuvenation beyond the capabilities of injectables. We can also use it for patients who have had a facelift and need a little more tightening but don’t want another surgical procedure.

You may hear ellacor called a “nonsurgical facelift”, but it’s important to understand where its limitations lie. Ellacor is not designed to replace surgical interventions for more severe skin laxity. If you have a significant amount of excess skin, a surgical facelift and/or neck lift might be a better fit.

What Should I Expect During My Ellacor Treatment?

Ellacor is performed comfortably right here in our office. On the day of your procedure, your provider will start by injecting local anesthesia into the treatment area to help you stay comfortable during the procedure.

Once your skin is sufficiently numb, your provider will strategically place the ellacor device to your skin to create micro-cores in a precise grid pattern. The device contains needles less than half a millimeter wide that rapidly punch out microscopic “cores” of skin, no larger than the width of a hair. Built-in suction simultaneously removes the excised tissue.

A single ellacor session removes up to 8% of dermal tissue in the targeted area. Healing begins almost instantly.

Is There Downtime After an Ellacor Treatment?

Downtime is significantly less with ellacor than with surgery, but you should still prepare for at least a few days off from regular activities. Most patients feel comfortable resuming work and social activities after three to five days.

During the initial post-treatment period, expect some bleeding, scabbing, redness and minor bruising and swelling. Your skin may feel warm and tight, but pain is rarely an issue.

Treat your skin gently while it heals. Avoid irritants like acids and exfoliators and forego makeup until your provider approves (generally 3-5 days). Use gentle cleansers and moisturizers, as well as occlusive barriers like petroleum jelly. You'll be able to resume your typical skincare and makeup routine once the micro-core sites have closed, usually about one week after the treatment.

What Results Are Expected With Ellacor?

Ellacor produces results gradually. Over the next few months, your skin will repair the micro-cores and generate new collagen and elastin. As these processes take place, the treated skin can become visibly tighter, smoother and plumper with fewer lines and wrinkles. Full results are reached in three to six months.

Many people benefit from starting with an initial series of ellacor treatments. The usual protocol is two to three treatments, spaced one month apart.

Once we have achieved the maximum degree of improvement possible, you may choose to come in for annual follow-up treatments to maintain your results. An effective skincare regimen, especially the daily use of sunscreen, will help prolong the treatment’s benefits.
